DESCRIPTION:
The Sugar Bowl is a collegiate championship football game played each year on or near January 1, since 1935. It is the second oldest bowl game competition in the country, behind the Rose Bowl.
The game gets its name From Tulane Stadium, built in 1926. The stadium sits on the former site of the Foucher Plantation, which was the first to create granulated sugar from sugar cane juice in the state of Louisiana.
